A Love Letter

Dear One,

Before the foundations of the world were laid,

Before the glittering stars and galaxies were hung in their special places,

And the planets were set a spinning,

Before all creation celebrated and reflected the glory of its Creator,

There is no person, not one – not your father or mother, sister or brother, your dearest lover or your oldest friend – who will ever know you as I do.

Every thought that has ever entered your mind,

            Every word you’ve ever spoken,

            Every step you’ve ever taken,

Every moment of delight and utter joy,

Each accomplishment – every moment of fulfillment and self-congratulations,

And every shame-filled humiliation,

Every spiteful, mean-spirited whisper of gossip or cruel word ever aimed at you… or that came spewing out of you,

Every sorrow, every regret, and every crushing disappointment you’ve felt,

Promises kept and sacred vows broken,

Every gut-wrenching – heart-breaking hurt you’ve experienced,

That secret thing tucked away deep inside that you pray no one ever finds out,

Every hope, dream, and desire – that yearning for completeness…a wholeness you’ve never experienced but always felt must be possible,

That longing to know and to be known,

Every smile you’ve ever worn and every note of laughter that has danced across your lips,

Every tear you’ve ever cried,

The fear that haunts you at the midnight hour,

The ache that does not go away and the emptiness that never is filled,

The person you dream of becoming and the discouragement that overwhelms you when once again you fall short,

The person you were yesterday, the person you are today, and the person you will become tomorrow and a thousand tomorrows after,

There is nothing that I want more than to be the Father that you so desperately need.

But here’s the thing.

There is a great, widening gulf between us.

The choices you’ve made have claimed your heart, your mind, your soul, and your body. Those decisions have created binding chains that tighten as you chase your short-sighted dreams and self-serving ambitions.  You’ve become a slave to the meaningless, mind-numbing tasks of the day and the unfulfilled desires of your heart.

You are searching for true love and joy in the emptiest of places.

Dear One, there are wrongs to be righted, faults that cannot be overlooked, and penalties for sins that must be paid. Are you beginning to see that on your own, you cannot loosen those chains that bind you?  You cannot free yourself from the many things that have laid claim to your soul. The chains are too strong, the cost too great, and the penalties too steep.

You need a Savior who is strong enough to break the chains and powerful enough to free you from all that has entangled you in a relentless web of lies, deceit, hopelessness, helplessness, meaningless desires, and self-defeating fantasies.

Not only strong, not only powerful, but your Savior must also be perfectly holy and without sin. And He must love you enough to stand in your place to take the judgment that you deserve. He must be willing to take upon Himself the penalty for your sin.

Only a perfect Savior could right the wrongs. Only a sinless Redeemer could pay the penalty for your sins and bridge the gulf that will otherwise keep you from My presence for all eternity.

And so, I have sent you a Love Letter unlike any you will ever receive.

A Love Letter that is the exact, perfect representation of Me.

A Love Letter filled with the purest, truest, and most generous Love that has ever and will ever exist.

A Love Letter that laid set aside all glory to take on human form to walk this earth, the very earth He created.

My Love Letter to you arrived late one night in the city of Bethlehem as a tiny baby. He was laid in a manger, announced by a star, celebrated by an angel chorus, worshipped by shepherds, and later by wise men bringing gifts from afar.

He walked this earth in human form – fully God and fully man.  He spent 3+ years performing miraculous wonders, teaching and loving His fallen creation. He was tempted as every other man, yet He never sinned.  He lived a flawless, perfectly righteous, God-honoring life.

Then, He took upon Himself the mockery, scorn, flesh-tearing lashes of the scourge, jeering crowds, degrading humiliation, and a crown of thorns.

Finally, suspended between heaven and earth, spikes piercing His hands and feet, His blood poured out upon the ground, the pure, spotless Lamb of God submitted Himself to the cruelest of deaths on a crude wooden cross. He paid the penalty for sins He did not commit.

He paid the ransom for the souls of mankind. A ransom only God Himself could afford to pay. A ransom only a Loving Father would be willing to pay.

And when it seemed that all hope was gone – the Savior of the world defeated – the Light of the World snuffed out by the Darkness; He rose victorious over death and sin and the grave!

This is My Love Letter to You.

I will not force Myself upon you. The choice is yours.  The consequences of your decision are eternal.

I don’t promise you a life without difficulties, strife, or challenges, but I promise you this, as a child of Mine, you will never be alone again. I will never leave you or forsake you.

  • When the turmoil of the world fills you with anxiety and fears, I Am your peace.
  • In times of sorrow, heartache, pain, and discouragement, I will dry your tears, comfort, and encourage you. I will heal your wounds and brokenness.
  • When your foot is slipping, my love will support you.
  • When you call out to me, I will hear and answer you.
  • I Am your Light in the Darkness.

There is NOTHING that will ever separate you from My Love.  Not troubles or hardships or persecution, neither life nor death or angels or demons, no power in all of creation can ever tear you from My loving arms.

I chose you.

I know you.

I am your ONLY God and Savior.

I love you with an everlasting love.
