“Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
“You are the light of the world….let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14, 15
In the deepening darkness,
A flame is lit.
Flickering.
A whimpering light.
Pushed. Bending with every air’s breath.
For one fragile moment the flame dims.
Darkness seems the inevitable victor.
Then the tiny glow strengthens and shines anew.
A small but steady blaze.
Faithful.
Alone in the darkness.
A second flame is lit.
It reaches out to the first.
The two become one.
Larger, brighter, steadier, stronger.
A third flame comes to life.
Stretching to join the united two.
The cold darkness shrinks from the warmth of the growing blaze.
In the presence of the united flame,
The darkness loses its grip on the whole.
And the glowing light becomes a shining beam banishing the darkness.
“The darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.” 1 John 2:8
Father God,
May the flame of Your Spirit burn brightly in me and the heat of Your presence radiate through me the message of Your love, grace and mercy to all I meet. Let us, Your sons and daughters, join together to light the way for those who wander in the darkness desperately needing the True, Eternal Light of YOU.
All praise and thanksgiving to YOU for sending Your Light, Jesus Christ, to defeat the darkness and bring us to Your eternal Light.
